What Made Me Wanna Make A Blog?

I decided to start a blog when i realized a lot of people that decides to go natural don’t know what products to use on their hair or they don’t know how to manage their hair. When i was younger my mother gave me a relaxer because it was hard to find products for my hair. The natural hair community started to become more popular so we decided to go natural. The transitioning was a challenge so i just cut off the straight pieces once my natural hair grew out some and ever since then we’ve been natural. I went natural in 2012 and after I cut of the straight pieces off my hair grew pretty quickly once I learned how to take care of it.

Why wont my hair grow? Breakage?

Some people when they go natural will say”my hair wont grow” but that is not true, your hair grows but a lot of the times the ends break off. It is harder to see breakage on natural hair than relaxed. Away to prevent breakage is by sleeping on a satin pillow case or wearing a satin bonnet/head scarf. People will get breakage around the edges from all types of things from wrongly done protective styles to the wrong type of bonnet. Yes, bonnets can cause breakage, The lining elastic band around the bonnet can cause breakage. You may get a “protective style” and it might do the exact opposite as protect, the number 1 cause of edges breaking off is too tight or heavy braids braids.

Products and porosity

There are tons of natural hair products but are you using the correct ones? Yes you can read it to see if its for straight, wavy, curly, or coily/course hair but did you ever check the porosity? Hair porosity is how your hair absorbs moisture. You can look at somebody’s hair and say “oh, we hair the same curl pattern so i’m gonna use what she uses” but just because y’all curls are the same doesn’t mean the products will work the same. If you have more course hair you will need thicker products verse if you have wavy or looser curls you won’t need as thick of products. To check your hair porosity you can drop a piece of hair in water to see if it floats on top, floats in middle, or sinks to bottom. If your hair floats you have low porosity verse if it sinks, you have high porosity.

Types of damaged hair

There are many types of hair damage, form color, heat, dry hair, and thinning hair. DO NOT use box color hair dye at home by yourself if you plan on dying your hair. If you want your hair dyed then go to the professionals. Heat damage is very common but some call it heat training. The difference between heat damage is that you don’t want straight pieces, but with heat training you want your hair to be straight without all the chemicals but that will cause the hair to become thin. Both of these things are damaging to the hair. Not moisturizing your hair will cause it to get damaged and that will cause breakage.
